Matt Mansfield: I want to continue growing the site offerings and sense of community. There’s an opportunity to create a great spot online here, one where folks share and learn best practices in a low-key, non-intimidating way and I’m going to work hard to make that a reality. I’d like to expand my role beyond the site as well through both speaking and writing.
Melissa Dinwiddie: In five years I’d love to have a loyal community of 500+ paid subscribers, and a readership/fan base of many times that. I’d like to be creating new content that excites me (including getting back to making visual art) and makes a positive difference for my customers. I’d like to have a true business that I can leave for a month or two at a time, knowing it will run just fine without me, as opposed to a job that requires my presence to make anything happen!
I’d also love to have a published book, and to be speaking and teaching workshops around the world.
Most of all, I’d like to be spending the vast majority of my time doing the things I’m most passionate about—creating content, creating art, creating music, creating connections, making a difference. AND I’d like to have plenty of “chill time” to boot!
Andy Hayes: I have no idea. Ask me again in 4.
Caroline Colóm Vásquez: I plan to expand the Paloma’s Nest product line to include additional home furnishings and home accessories for all occasions and all rooms of the house. We will be expanding our wholesale division and attending the major gift and handcraft shows across the country. We see this as a key to building our brand recognition.
Tricia Lawrence: I want to stay bootstrapped for the next five years and to build new pieces of this business that I can’t even yet fathom. That’s very exciting to me in this season of massive change in publishing and marketing. I want to be wildly creative and not be inhibited by the economy. I want to not worry about where the money will come from next month so that I can focus on how I feel and what I want to do each morning. It sounds like a pipe dream, but I’ve made decisions toward this: we cut cable and got Netflix, we cut going out to eat, the latte factor, and overseas vacations in exchange for local road trips. I don’t sign up for as many information products that I used to purchase. I have a list of what I already have and I just get an idea and then go search through my piles of already purchased infoproducts to find what I can use to make it happen.
Dawn Svenson Holland: Exceeding the income of the position I left for this new venture.
Sherice Jacob: I’d like to make it so that much of the routine work is more automated or managed without my direct intervention or supervision. I’d love to hire a virtual assistant or two in a couple of years (that is, if I can stand to relinquish control of some of the everyday stuff!).
